What is your "WORD" for 2023?

At the end of 2022, I saw all of these Facebook posts “What’s your word for 2023?”. I hadn’t really thought about my word. I don’t always have a word for the year (although I do recall declaring "focus" for a year, "abundance" for another…). But, when I saw these posts, my first reaction was “easy….joy!”. I have been very intentional about enjoying the blessings and moments in my life rather than taking them for granted or just living in autopilot. And so, I was excited about JOY!

But…one night I was going to bed (it was January 3, 2023) and suddenly it hit me. THRIVE! Thrive is my word for 2023. Not joy. Admittedly, there is nothing wrong with having joy as a word, it’s a fantastic word. But, in my mind, joy is included in thrive. Because to me to thrive is to live out all areas in your life in a wholehearted, authentic, free and perfectly awesome fashion. It’s balance and amazing-ness (that’s a word, right?). According to Merriam-Webster, thrive is to grow vigorously; to gain in wealth or possessions; or to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances. But, to Amy Hassen-Miller thriving is so much more. It is achieving “it”. “It” is what you are wanting for yourself, your relationship with God, your marriage, your family, your work, your home environment, your hobbies, your health and wellness, everything! Thriving is working toward and achieving what you want in all the areas of your life. And enjoying it!

Disclaimer: I know life isn’t perfect (boy do I know!), and I know you aren’t realistically going to have a perfect life in all of the ways that are meaningful to you all the time, but you catch my drift, right?

So, pick a word. A word that really resonates with you!

These are some great words! Which one(s) speak to you. Think about them for a few days. Consider which one will help you make the most of 2023. Think of which one really describes what you want for this year!

Once you have a word, display it everywhere so that you are always looking it in the face and working to achieve it. I am getting a shirt made with my word on it and I ordered a bracelet. I also have written it in my planner and have told my husband and friends and my social media followers. I don’t want to go overboard, but I am also thinking of having a sign made for my office (which doubles as our living room). You can also make it your screensaver on your phone or computer- or both. The more you see it, the more you interact with that word, the more you will make it part of your life.

Finally, let’s talk about how you are going to make it part of your life. Brainstorm a list of how you can incorporate your word into your life. This part is so important; do not skip it! It can also be overwhelming. Unfortunately, it is challenging to cover in a blog post due to the diversity of potential word choice. Therefore, because I don't want you to get stalled on this step, I invite you to a complimentary session where we can brainstorm ways to implement your word into YOUR life.
